Finally got enough done to warrant another post. So much for having this done by summer. Got the forks/front wheel/front brake put back together. On the left side of the pic you can see the original tank that came with this bike. In my next post I'll show a pic of the tank that came with the parts bike.

Tank that came with the parts bike. Looks a LOT better, all I did was clean it inside and out. I still need to take the mounting brackets to the scotch brite wheel to make them look new again. I also need to rebuild the fuel petcock - that shouldn't be too difficult.

Old vs. new shift shaft. I could have used the one out of the parts bike but at this point I don't want to start robbing the other motor of parts. I may be able to rebuild the other bike at some time in the future so I elected to get a NOS shift shaft off of EBay.

I am going to go through the original motor. The piston had been seized at some point and was cracked so a new piston/rings are going to be ordered soon. I'll get some pics of the original piston/cylinder when I go back to my shop this afternoon. At this point I'm waiting on a Tusk case splitter/crank puller to arrive so I can finish splitting the cases. I also have a complete gasket set on its way.

Yeah, I know. My shop is a mess. I usually clean it out once a year, haven't gotten around to it yet...

I'm still here. I retired the end of March, been a goal of mine to retire by age 60 - mission accomplished! Prior to that I was spending all my free time getting the house ready to sell. Started in September of last year, finished in July of this year. Painting, re-staining, new carpet, blah, blah. Lots of work. Sold the house a month later, then re-located to Abilene, TX. Having a house built, should be done by the first week of January. Along with the new house I'm having a 20' x 40' metal workshop put up in the backyard for my projects. Once that's complete and we're moved in I can continue work on the 175. At this point the frame/plastics are assembled, the engine is reassembled, ready to be put in the frame.
Question - is there a template or are there dimensions available for locating the brake light on the rear fender or does everyone just WAG or eyeball it?

Does anyone have the dimensions for the chain rollers for a 1982 PE175? I haven’t been able to source an OEM part so I was going to try to find a generic chain roller that will fit.

Nice to see your PE175 rebuild! I'm busy with an '81 175 rebuild, just installed a TS185 piston and it runs great (mine came with rings!!!). Next mission is repairing the gas tank, it has old repairs to cracks, so not sure I can get it looking perfect again... Keep up the good work there!

Picked up a trashed 1982 PE175. Started the rebuild a few weeks ago. So far I have the bike stripped down to the bare frame, stripped, sandblasted, and welded a crack I found. Rattled-canned the paint (black). Just got a swing arm bearing kit so that’s my next project to complete. Have new fenders, need to get the rest of the plastics. This won’t be a quick rebuild but I hope to be able to ride it in the spring. I’ll get pics posted shortly. Good Morning all, I'm new and how fortunate I came across this website! I still have my 1982 Suzuki PE 175z that I bought brand new the year I graduated from High School. I just decided to restore it, and may be looking for some help! I know right out of the shoot a big issue will be the rear shock. I believe that's what led it getting parked / stored years ago along with moving on to other, newer bikes. Any input on where I can get a shock? Any help greatly appreciated! Have a great day! Mark

Hi and welcome. Those shocks are not rebuildable* but the oil can be replaced. If that is all that's needed. I see an 82' PE being parted on Bike Boneyard so you can inquire about the shock condition if it's still available You can check the Links suspension section but I don't see any of the vintage companies offering single shocks But I would call & check if NOLEENE has them or can make one since they may have made ones for RM's that were similar.... You may want to use the site search function here for information about shocks (or anything else). It will lead you to this. There is a discussion where one member mentions he " Finally rode my PE yesterday. Rear shock from 1986 KDX200 (the only year with clickers)". He mentions some mods are required and you may try and read and learn more.... * I think there have been some who have rebuilt the non-rebuildable shocks and perhaps they can supply an answer to how it's done.
