I’ll post pics of my progress when I can. I broke my foot so I haven’t been able to do a lot lately. Once I’m a little more mobile I’ll be able to continue. Looking to have it done by June (fingers crossed).

Somewhere for those expensive spherical bearings i believe you can convert to 10mm ID 19mm OD. I dont know the specific details but i have heard of it being done. The bearing is GE10. Same is in the left shock on the 80/81

Sorry to hear of the broken foot! I was down for most of last year with a shattered kneecap, traumatic surgery, then total muscle atrophy during 4 weeks of immobilization/recovery, and loss of 85% of my knee range of motion... Finally have been able to start getting back at it since the beginning of winter late 2019... Best wishes, and good luck getting out on this machine ASAP!
Thank you for posting details of your restoration and the swingarm/shock pivot retrofit mods.

I'm ready to get going again. I have a BUNCH of pics uploaded to my Flickr account, not sure if I should upload them here or just let have anyone who's interested go to the link on the first page of this thread. Status: I think I have all the parts I need to get this thing back together. I found that parts bike on Craigslist for $225 which saved a TON of time and effort. The seat that came with the bike is in perfect shape, the shock is good, all the little brackets and parts and pieces were still on the bike. Heck, even the stock fork boots were on the bike, and in good shape. The bike was garage kept which helped a lot. The bike was dirty but very complete. The only issue with it was that it had sucked in some trash when the guy was out riding one day so the motor will need some work but I have a good motor so at this point I should be good to go. I've started putting the old bike back together after cleaning, painting, etc. I've replaced bearings where needed, bought new plastics, decals, and a few other things before I found the parts bike. Today I'm going to start on fork seal replacement and lower fork leg cleanup. I'll start posting some pics of the remainder of the rebuild.

By the way, the new pics I posted in Flickr are in no particular order. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

As you can tell the last person to replace the fork seals on this bike used a screwdriver to drive the parts into position. Fork parts after disassembly.

Fork tube is cleaning up nicely! I used a very fine scotch brite pad on my buffer to get rid of the corrosion on the tube. I'm wondering if I should clearcoat it before assembly?

Fork tube is cleaning up nicely! I used a very fine scotch brite pad on my buffer to get rid of the corrosion on the tube. I'm wondering if I should clearcoat it before assembly? - I just washed my 175. I think they originally came with some type of coating from the factory, so you could clear coat it. I probably wouldn't because I think ultimately it will still wear and peel and just an occasional good detailing and polishing would keep me happy, but I would rather ride and keep up on basic maintenance. My bike needs new tire, chains and sprockets currently, one reason I washed it ;-) Working on a clean bike is nice. Keeping it clean is hard work, for me ;-) So, it might be good to clear coat, if you prefer, but I think a good polish now and then would be enough. Only you can decide what will make you satisfied. It looks good now. Your whole project is looking great!

Thanks for the kind words. For some reason this pic was a real motivator for me. I think because for a while I didn't think I would be able to find a stock rear shock! Now if I can just figure out how to keep pics from rotating 90 degrees when I post them...

Looking very very good. I'm very jealous of you scoring that parts bike so cheap! I'm way behind on my winter/early spring bike projects, and your photos are giving me motivation to get cracking on them ASAP!

Thanks! I’ve been doing more work on the lower fork tubes, they look a lot better. I’ll post more pics this weekend. Hopefully I’ll finish rebuilding the forks.
