Hi forum, thanks for admitting me. File attached (unless I made a newbie error) is a sketch of a Speedo cable from my 1982 PE175Z and a couple of pictures of the ends. Think it's the same cable for the D and E. Am posting it because some users are having difficulty finding the correct length cable. Attachments:PE175 Speedo Cable.pdf (60.9 KB)

some users are having difficulty finding the correct length cable. I've seen advertised and sold some PE cables they say will work but are too short. I think the length is also important...

Yes , the drawing is for the correct length , 945 mm over all . Geraint is lucky enough to have one that was made before Suzuki made a mistake on length .

It looks like a 1977 Suzuki GS400 cable, a road going bike with forks around 30-5/8"/775mm tall. GS1000 also may use this same cable end design with the slight housing bend on the top end, same cable ends. If I recall, the 77 PE forks are around 31.5" or 32" tall. Perhaps Suzuki substituted one they thought would work but had a major oversight? BUT the PE Speedometer, iirc, is mounted A LOT lower than the road bikes, however. I can measure the road bike cables at some point soon if needed.

928mm, housing end to housing end. 36.5". (Per the pdf drawings above) I'll check the road bikes. I'd suspect Suzuki superseded the PE cables with a shorter road bike cable.

overall length is 945 mm ,not 928 . The 82-84 PE 175 full floater has longer forks than earlier models .
I think you have misinterpreted the drawing , overall length is as the main drawing plus the connecting nuts ,one is 11.5 mm long less metal thickness of 1 mm so 10.5 .the hub end is
7.5 ( drawn without including metal thickness ) so that's 18.5 to add to the 928 = 946.5 ,so that is the length your looking for ,highly unlikely a road bike will have a cable that long .
You have to be careful interpreting engineering drawings ,I've been doing it for the last 45 years and I still cock up . making a drawing for someone who doesn't know what the component actually does or looks like ,so that they can make the component ,is even harder.
There is a chap in Warwick ,JJ cables , he has lengthened my cable ,while he had it he looked at how he could get around the 11 mm dia hub nut . He tells me that he can make a cable but the 11 mm hub nut would not be free to spin ,so the whole cable would have to be spun on to the thread on the hub . That could cause a problem with the orientation of the bend on the ferrule so the cable will need to be straight ,I can't see a problem but maybe wouldn't suit purists out there .

I think i saved the information on the 'cable issue' off of the yahoo site. Will attach it in this post. Chuck B was a part of that so probably remembers it

I think i saved the information on the 'cable issue' off of the yahoo site. Will attach it in this post. Chuck B was a part of that so probably remembers it - Alpha Sport shows the 175T and 175D stock speedometer cables for example, as different part numbers - as they should be. The 'updated' replacement cable is the same for both models though! Part# 34910-17B01. IF IT WAS LONG ENOUGH FOR BOTH MODELS, that would be fine but the cable they sent me was too short for my 175T, so it definitely would be too short for the "D" I think. I managed to find an original cable that (as I measure it*) measures 37 1/4 (946mm) outer cable housing or 38 (965mm) inner cable. This fits my "T", I don't have a "D" for comparison. I think the "official" replacement offered is just wrong. - Motion Pro sells an inner cable kit if that is what broke and is needed. I've repaired some outer cable housings with the correct sized shrink tape. I haven't checked the wire size of the kit but it should fit I think and would be better than buying the wrong size cable. I never throw old parts away, always save the fittings and connectors as they can be reused usually. ;-) If you are lucky and have a friend in the local motorcycle parts department, maybe they can find a cable that fits. chuck b.

The overall length of the inner cable is 970mm, the outer cable is ~928 and with the two nuts in their seated position, the nut ends would be 946.5 apart as drumnagorarach has highlighted.
