I'm looking to buy or trade for a 1980-1984 (aluminum swingarm era) PE175. Preferably near Ohio, definitely within the USA.
I have a 1974 Rickman VR250MX that I will want to sell or use as trade bargaining. It has the legendary Montesa 73M "waffle fin" left side shift engine, 36hp, which is an absolute powerhouse for it's age and size, being surprising for a simple piston port engine with no reed valves even.
Large NOS & used spare parts collection to go with it, & Fox Gas Shox (coil spring/nitro charged/rebuildable), and longer 7.5" travel "black ribbed" (Can-Am etc) Betor 35mm fork sliders and damper rods included in spares.
Brand new PowerDynamo/Vape electronic ignition & AC lighting coil installed, + a used spare original Motoplat electronic ignition & the original Motoplat which was lacking in low RPM output ESPECIALLY once hot. Starts up great now, spare original paint gas tank and bodywork boxed up to preserve. Newly & nicely painted "trail tank" (a restored spare I had) & misc lightly refurbished bodywork installed.
Has leaking output countershaft sprocket seal, needs repaired, dent in pipe on bottom. Crank seals seem very good still, and can be changed without splitting the cases if the time ever comes.
Bike was in great shape for the age when I got it, running original front tire still at that time (1974 Made in England Dunlop). Great compression, the force that takes on the kickstarter off and blows people's minds. I often get asked if the bike is a 400cc or 500cc due to the impressive and mighty exhaust sound & how quick it is for it's age. I thought this would go away after I repacked the muffler canister, but it STILL sounds very ferocious!
The bike has a clean Ohio title in my name, and oddly is even a street legal title. I would highly recommend transferring the title into your name, as it will help with resale, even if your state does not require titles for off road bikes. many states require titled and registered bikes in order to be able to legally ride public trails.
this bike is an absolute blast to ride, but is too much for my wife, and longer travel suspension for really rugged off-road and off Trail adventures would be a little more preferential. I ride this thing on all of the trails that I ride my 1999 KDX200 on, however, even ones that I did not think I could handle on it, it just takes better line choosing, more attentiveness, and standing up off of the seat more often.
It is an ABSOLUTE BLAST to rip this thing through banked turns, due to its compact chassis, especially compared to a very high center of gravity taller longer modern bike.
